红袖添香 red sleeve adding incense:
avoiding to use the character手(hand) instead using red sleeve to represent it, especially
to represent the hand of a female.it means a female adding incense for the
student. In ancient China, female didn’t studying themselves. They just doing
some routine for male. Later these mean a male student have a pretty girl
accompany him when studying.

knowing hot: In Chinese version of ‘Red Cliff’, there is a figure 荀彧.
It
is he advised 曹操 to control
[overawe] the emperor and command the nobles. This policy turned曹操 as the nominal legitimate government of that time. Yet
荀彧 love his wife
very much. When his wife got a fever in winter, 荀彧 went to the
yard to cool his own body and covered on his wife’s body to lower her
temperature. His wife died finally and he died too shortly after.
赌书泼茶, bet on book spill out tea: 李清照was
a famous poetess of China when she married a scholar
named 赵明诚(1101 A.D. when she was
seventeen years of age), both of them enjoyed various books very much. Normally
after a meal, they contest on memory to find out a certain story writing in
which book to decide who will drink the first cup of tea. As the winner was always overjoyed
by the victory, who often spill tea out on his/her robe.

me will never be given up: During the Han
Dynasty (202B.C.-220A.D.),
the emperor’s sister fell in love with a high rank officer 宋弘. Whom the
emperor appreciated too. One day, the emperor hide his sister behind a floor screen and called 宋弘 in, he asked
him, “It was said that normally anyone have to change friends after he wield
power and have to change wife after he become rich. What do you think?”
宋弘 said, “Yet I heard that never forget
your friends in your poverty and never given up
your wife that have eating chaff with you.”
When
the emperor heard this, he said to the floor screen, “it can’t be done.”
